What the Neighbors Heard

I wonder what the neighbors say
they must have heard last night:
some fracas, fisticuffs, a fray,
or foul and fearsome fight.
There was no throng or rowdy crowd:
just us, I must confess,
but we’re legitimately loud
whenever we play chess.
