Saving My Candy
I planned to be slow with my candy
and eat only one piece a day.
It gathered all night, so it didn’t seem right
to devour it all right away.
I opened a piece and enjoyed it.
I savored its sweetness and zing,
Then safely I stored my delectable hoard
and I vowed not to pilfer a thing.
But then as I lay on the mattress,
the candy kept calling to me:
“Just one little piece wouldn’t make you obese,
and there’s plenty of others, you see…”
I fretted, and fought, but I faltered.
I ate every piece that was there.
I lost the good fight eating candy all night,
but come next year, I’ll save it, I swear.
