1639 – Wooden Mouse

Wooden Mouse
Something something chip off the old… no, I’m sorry. I can’t do it.

I Tried to Carve

I tried to carve a cockatoo.
I tried to carve a horse.
I tried to carve a duck or two
(with webby feet, of course).

I tried to carve a bat, a rat,
a cat, a cow, and then
I tried a crow, and after that
a rooster and a hen.

I tried to carve a dinosaur.
I tried a parakeet.
I carved until my arms were sore
from carving slow and neat.

I tried to carve an eagle’s winds
and stunning sailing ships.
I tried to carve so many things,
but all I carved was chips.
