#692 – Turtle and the Snail

Turtle and the Snail
Look, you two move or I’m going to move the finish line. Again.

Tortoise and the Snail

You’ve heard the Tortoise and the Hare,
for that’s a famous tale,
but have you ever heard about
the Tortoise and the Snail?

The Tortoise and the Snail were friends,
but often disagreed
about which of the two of them
could move at lesser speed.

“I’m slower than the hour hand
that spins around a clock.”
The Snail would brag all day and night,
“I’m slower than a rock.”

“I’m slower than,” the Tortoise said,
“a shoe without a foot,
and when I go I move so slow,
it’s like I’m staying put.”

The Tortoise and the snail agreed
that they should hold a race.
The champion, they both concurred,
would finish second place.

But at the race to recognize
the slowest of the slow,
they both lined up, they both got set,
but neither one would go…

…and they’ve been standing at the start
since eighteen twenty-nine,
for neither wants to be the first
to cross the finish line.
