1697 – Lots of Petting

Lots of Petting
If I had eight arms, I would have eight pets. No, wait, no I wouldn’t.

Line Up

My pets line up for petting.
They love the love they’re getting.
They wag their tails. They purr. They yearn
and patiently await their turn.
No barking, scratching, shoving
to have their share of loving.

And once they’ve been subjected
to stroking they expected,
they leave the loving line, and then
return to wait their turn again:
an orderly collection
awaiting my affection.
