1750 – Squeaky Shoes

Squeaky Shoes

Squeaky

My shoes went “squeak”.
Each step, they’d “creak”.
I’d try to sneak,
but still, they’d speak.
I took a stride,
they cried and cried.
They “scritched” or “sqwaked”
each time I walked.

My patience lost,
the shoes I tossed.
I walked around,
but still, that sound!
With shoes disposed,
the truth exposed:
The noise arose
from squeaky toes.
