Trapeze
Big Luther used to swing trapeze.
He’d double-back flip, dip, and fly
then swing above his audience
at least two-dozen stories high.With muscles from his head to toe,
he dazzled us when he would flex,
and all the tricks that he’d perform
were dashing, daring, and complex.Was Luther fast? Was Luther strong?
He was, but how his palms would sweat…
so Luther wasn’t good enough
to swing trapeze without a net.
