1347 – Rain Delay

Rain Delay
Some say that a rained out game is only slightly more boring than others.

Rained Out

The sounds of the cheering
and jeers of the crouds!
The crack when the bat meets the ball.
I worried the swirling
and whirling of clouds
would tarnish the game for us all.

We came to the stadium,
entered its gates
to witness the champions play,
but soon a tornado
had stolen the plates
and rains washed the outfield away.

The only thing striking
was lightning, it seems.
The umpires had chosen to hide.
The winds sent the home
and the visiting teams
to cower for cover inside.

The storm sucked the seats
and the stands in the air.
It swallowed the dirt and the grass.
I looked to the field
and found nothing was there.
The game had been canceled, alas…

I should have been scared
being caught unprepared
by gusty and blustery strife,
but when I compared
to the others, declared,
“The best game I’ve seen in my life!”
