1655 – The Broken Part

The Broken Part
“I see the problem: it’s out of headlight fluid.”

I Am No Mechanic

Inside the car, beneath the hood
a part is dead, no longer good,
and I would fix it if I could,
but I am no mechanic.

Behind the cogs that clack and clink
and buried near the back, I think
a light is out – it doesn’t blink –
but I am no mechanic.

I search through grease, through grime and goo
not knowing what the pieces do
and I remove a part or two
but I am no mechanic.

And after hours, days, or more
no trace of what I’m searching for
the pieces spread across the floor
but I am no mechanic.
