1769 – Why Humpty Fell

Why Humpty Fell
This is why there are no monkeys in nursery rhymes.

Silly King

None of the people – nobody at all –
wondered why Humpty was up on the wall.
Laying there crumbled, and crackled, and chipped,
nobody knew what to do when he slipped.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
couldn’t put Humpty together again.
All of his peasants said, “Only the king…
uses a horse for un-breaking a thing.”
