#107 – The New Kid in Class

The New Kid in Class
“…and you’re not supposed to stand on desks either.”

Andrew is out of school today, and I am off for MLK for the first time in my career. The doodle almost didn’t happen today, but then I decided to draw anyway.

This one has been in my head for a while.  I’ve even attempted to draw it before as an illustration for a poem, but couldn’t get the dog out right.  The poem is also titled “The New Kid in Class” and it has long been one of my favorites. I’m not sure that this is the latest draft, though:

Must be some kind of joke, I suppose,
but the truth I would like to expose:
take a look as his cold, soggy nose…
The new kid in class is a dog!

This is someone’s idea of a goof
I suppose, although I have no proof,
’cause he answered the teacher with “woof”.
The new kid in class is a dog!

There is no one who hears what I wail,
but the truth, I am sure, will prevail.
Can’t they see that he’s wagging his tail?
The new kid in class is a dog!

How’d he get in our class anyhow?
Dogs in school they should never allow.
I was head of the class until now…
The new kid in class is a dog.
