1345 – Waiting for a Bite

Waiting for a Bite
Hooks are not as delicious as you’d think.

What Do Fish Think

I wonder what it’s like to be
a slippy, flippy trout
and munch a morsel undersea
to be – surprise! – yanked out!

Are fishes scared, when unprepared,
they bite a bit of bait,
or feel indifferent they dared
to seal their fishy fate?

Or do they hope, while still below
and lines are losing slack,
for fishermen who say “hello”
then kindly toss them back?

I’ve cast my tackle to and fro
and waited with a wish,
but never really wondered, though,
if fishing’s fair for fish.

Welcome back to the school year! This doodle starts the fifth year that I’ve been doing the Lunchbox Doodles project for my sons. I’ve had to make some changes this year: the amount of time that the doodles were taking last year was just too much. I talked to my sons about this already. Since they don’t receive the doodles in their lunchboxes anymore (their Mom lets them purchase lunch from school), they’ve agreed that one joint doodle to share among them is sufficient.

Andrew mostly just cares about continuing to receive poems, and I’m all too happy to oblige.

The consolation for them and for the fans of the doodles, I hope, is that more of the doodles will be in color this year. With only five per week, I should have the time to color them in. You were patient with me while I learned how to cartoon, and that paid off just fine, so please be patient as my skills in coloring improve.
