1573 – Pumpkin Pup

Pumpkin Pups
Jack-o-Lantern-in-the-Box.

My Jack-o-Lantern

Dad bought the gourd
when I implored:
that pumpkin I had seen.
Dad did the deeds
of scooping seeds
and washing innards clean.

With artful grace
Dad drew the face
The best I’d ever seen
The nose and eyes
he cut to size
A ghoul, but not too mean.

Dad lit the light
which made it bright
and set it on the shelf.
To mom, I said,
“You like that head?
I made it by myself!”
